The Goodness of God Part 3: Blind Spots & Obstacles

For the past several months I have been observing many people entering into a time of significant change, including myself. Many of these are unexpected, "suddenly", rapid moving events. Everything being shaken and rearranged from health status to relationships, careers, financial situations, etc. It's as though many of the things we have perceived as the foundational "plate tectonics" of our lives are being moved. As I personally started to experience a time of major shifting, I began to sense that, whatever God was leading me into in the next season, those close to me would understand by the spirit of God within them and He would personally see to removing any resistance I may encounter along the way.

So, this was the backdrop of my mindset as I drove my daughter into school one morning late in March. I hadn't planned to take her in but I was still home on surgery leave (part of the personal rearranging that was going on) and she was running behind, so I offered to give her a ride. As we drove the on-ramp from our county road onto the four lane highway, I looked in my rear view mirror and saw just one vehicle three or four car lengths behind me, so I began to merge into the right lane. As I did, suddenly there was a pickup truck right next to me! Apparently, it had been in my blind spot. I never saw it until that moment. I'm sure the driver saw me coming but he was barreling along in that right lane and he was not moving! He never braked or tried to move into the other lane, even though it was completely open. Once I saw him and realized he wasn't moving out of the way, I let off the gas. Instantly, the whole thing took on this surreal feeling. It was like I was outside myself watching it all unfold in slow motion. I never hit the brakes or swerved. I just let off the gas and slid in behind him as he flew past me. We were on a collision course - we should have hit but somehow we didn't . It was like watching a perfectly timed dance! Trembling, and still not believing what had just happened, I thanked Jesus for His protection and we went on our way.

Afterward, I had a sense the Lord wanted to use what had happened that morning to speak something into my life. It came later in the day as I was listening to a message by Graham Cooke. In the midst of the presentation, he released this prophetic word from the Lord:

"Give Me all your obstacles. I will move them out of your way."

That's exactly what the Lord had done with our near miss on the highway! He saw what I could not see that morning and removed it from my path with ease and perfect timing. It was such a confirmation that He will take care of every obstacle that appears on the roads we travel in life, including the ones in our "blind spots"! All we have to do is give every obstacle to Him. All of them - the ones we see, the ones we fear may be there and even the ones we don't have a clue are heading our way. Our good Father is Jehovah Jireh - the One who looks ahead, sees our needs and provides in advance for us. We are free to let off the "gas"  of worry, fear and control and trust Him.

Since this encounter, the Lord has opened doorways and taken me down completely new paths in several areas of my life. I have watched Him remove obstacles I could see and I am sure there are countless others He has taken care of that I had no clue were there. This is the nature and character of our Father. His plans for us are good and He knows how to work all things together for our good! When it feels like the earth is shifting underneath the road we are traveling, we can trust Him to place us securely on the good path He has planned for us!

“Moses said, ‘Please. Let me see your Glory.’ God said, ‘I will make my Goodness pass right in front of you; I’ll call out the name, God, right before you.’” (Ex 33:18-19a)

Let the whole earth be filled with His glory!
